The helmet is dated or 1917 i think...
Should I leave the helmet alone or is there something I can do about it?

Outstanding score, friend! That Pickelhaube would make a fun restoration project...I would at least see if I could find a front plate for it, to enhance its display effect...The buckle is really nice as well and you sure got lucky on the price...thanks for showing!
    cheers, Glenn

You can probably reshape the spiked helmet rather easily. Get a styrofoam head and over time slowly push the helmet down over it. I did it with my only picklehaube and was able to restore the piece to the original oval shape from a state that was about as deformed as yours is now. As Glenn said, it should be fairly easy to locate a front plate. This one will make a great display piece. Nice haul. Jim G.

Can you decipher the unit marking in the rear visor? That should tell you what type of front plate you will want to look for.

The belt looks like it is marked to Füsilier Regiment 80, which was a Kurhessen unit and would have been worn with a Prussian style buckle. The Württemberg buckle looks like a real nice example.

Nice pick ups and a great helmet. And as Jim says - with care,
worth restoring to it's former glory. Congrats.........!

I believe it says, on the back visor JR180 1907 and now that you've mentioned the visor, I inspected everything more carefully and it seems that it is named on the fron visor I can't read the name but it's definitely named! The belt says F.R30 1900 I.B. 1900(clearly stamped FR30 too!) and has 105 stamped on it as well. I will post better pics in the morning!

Your belt is a Baden-Württemberg and the helmet seems like a 1895 pattern.
