I am no expert on these, only have one.
It is a M1907 feldmutze. I think the blue is for Barvaria. Red piping and band indicate Infantry. The BA is "clothing store" or Depot stamp, XVII being the corp. 16 being the year.

As to the authenticity of the cap I will leave it to others. These are highly faked. I'm also wondering if the stamp is correct but again will leave that to others.

My greatest fear is that one day I will die and my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them

Thanks for the info.
I think this is 100% original but I need a second opinion.
I have found more markings VERY faded as shown
Thanks very much in advance
While I do not have a working pair anymore so I can't try it out, I have been told that night vision goggles are excellent to read faded ink on cloth and leather...
I've seen photos of ink stamps on US Web gear and the results were amazing.

Mutze is marked for the 12th Army Corp, this was mainly made up of Saxon units. It should not have a Bavarian cockade. Although it does appear that the cockades have been replaced. It is my understanding that the original cockades were stitched on so the thread did not come through the lining. It is very hard to tell from a photo if it is original as the colors are never quite right in a photo. Close up shots of the liner - looks good as far as construction goes.
It does appear that the cockades have been replaced unsure why?
Thanks so much for the invaluable info!
It has been replaced,I see in the close up
that you just posted. There should be a little piece of felt behind the cockade to cover the holes where the thread goes though. The color of the felt should match the center of the cockade.
