    Another little trinket that (like a bower bird ) struck my fancy recently was this matchbox cover.
    Not trench art as it is not I believe a buckle centre and not also a fake - as the patina is quite convincing. .. but maybe a "souvenir" piece??

    Any ideas?

    I think i've read somewhere that these were post WW1 made by the French for sale to allied troops as souvenirs. Could be totally wrong on that but as long as the price was right, i like this piece.

    As it is steel construction and four sided it was probably German made in 1915 or later.

    I'm happy for it to be a period german made item or a post war made french souvenir.
    Im only into it for $26 Inc postage so thats cool!
