Purchased this recently. Blade has been shortened. There are no serial numbers stamped on the bayonet. Only Mark is a "crown 3" on top of the blade. The cross guard and muzzle ring have not been altered and I think the scabbard is German.
Help with German ersatz bayonet
Purchased this recently. Blade has been shortened. There are no serial numbers stamped on the bayonet. Only Mark is a "crown 3" on top of the blade. The cross guard and muzzle ring have not been altered and I think the scabbard is German.
My question is do you think this is Turkish rework or a shortened German ww 1 bayonet.
Tough call for me, ersatz bayo's are a special study all themselves. The bayo, without serial numbers or crude repairs, doesn't look like a typical Turk rework. The scabbard looks to have had some crude brazing done in the throat area, but the frog stud is still the German style, not the oval Turk style. It also doesn't have a throat screw were it should be. I really can't say for sure.

There is a throat screw just hard to see in photo.
I see it now. It could be a scabbard for an 1871/84 or an early 84/98.by mayralphie
