Georg, the helmet shown is that of a "Jager zu Pferde" (Mounted rifles), they utilized the same distinctive Wappen as the Dragoon Regiments used on their Pickelhaubes, the Dragoon Eagle Wappen. Did you win the helmet ? it went for a great price ! if I had known about it I would of bid ! someone got a bargain ! just required some elbow grease and a few parts to bring it back to life. I show the photo from e-bay, as the link will soon be lost, which would then of made this thread useless.
    Prost ! Steve.

Thanks Steve, I did get it. I think that I did got it a good price .I was thinking that it would go higher. When I get it (I hope that it is as noted-I always worry about e-bay stuff). I am planning on cleaning it up, What would you suggest for the rust (in the past I have had pretty good luck with is Evapo-Rust Rust Remover ) .Thanks for posting the photo, I tried but it would not upload? I hope to post after photos.

    Congratulations, a very good deal.
I would try a very fine steel wool, and make circulare moves.

That is for the out-side, for the inside I wouldn't do anything as the left over of the paint is the original.

Georg, a super buy, a bargain, find the parts, spike etc and restore and it will be worth upwards of $600-1000 ! Kris (stuka f) is correct, however the outside of the helmet should be blackened when the rust is removed, progressive amounts of gun blueing, should do the trick. Prost ! Steve.

I got the helmet today. Rusty, but not in too bad of shape( a couple of small dents).I think that I’ll start a new thread in the “Restoration & Refurbishing” section, thanks for all of the good information-Georg
