Help Identifying a WWI Medal

Could anyone out there identify this medal for me. It is very similar to several but I am unable to find an example with the enameled black, red and white shield. Many thanks for any help.

My German is rusty, but it says something like "For honorable participation in the world war" The word bund means federal and that's throwing me off. Not sure if this was for a civilian or soldier. I'm still learning about the Imperial medals and awards, haven't seen this one yet.

Looks similar to the Bavarian Kriegverdienst Cross. Obviously a
commemorative, but I've never seen this one before.........
