Default Help with some medal identification

    Greetings everyone,

While researching family history a picture of my Great Great Grandfather was located. He was German military prior to WW1 and according to family records was an adjunct to the Kaiser. In this photo he is wearing several medals and I was wondering if anyone could identify them. I will also try to get a blown up picture asap.

    Thanks for any assistance.

Sorry the time frame is 1860's (in his 20's) to 1910 (his death)

    Hi Engine8 !

First is an 1870 Iron Cross Second Class with a 25 year oakleaf.
Next looks like a long service cross - or perhaps a state award.
Third is a commemorative ?........I can't get the photo to enlarge !
(Two bars on it's ribbon give the locales of battles he participated in)
Fourth one is 1870/71 War Medal for combattants.
    Finally the Kaiser Centennial Medal.

The breast badge is possibly a drivers' long service pin.

The experts here will tell you more exacting details............

He looks a very proud and confident gentleman.
It's a really great photo. Thanks for posting !

    Regards, Steve.

    Hi !
You must get som close-up photo to verify the medals

The first one seems to be The Iron Cross 2.class 1870 with Oakleaves "25".
And the fifth one is The Prussian Centenary Medal.

I appreciate all the info. As soon as I can get to the original copy (in my father possession) I will get an enlarged area scan of the medals. But so far everything has been a tremendous help.

The gentleman in the picture's great grandson will be 80 this year and I am sure he would love to see this information laid out for him to look at.

    Thanks again.

Hi , the breast badge is the
German Imperial Railway 25 Year Service Wing Badge This is a very high quality die-struck pin back badge showing an imperial crown with the winged wheel of the railway service, a laurel wreath and the number 25..
It measures 2-1/8 by 1-3/4 inches.

if it has 800 and a cresent moon on the back, It is made by JOH. WAGNER & SOHN BERLIN, and it is cast of silver, it is indeed a good looking award...
