I have this set of four postcards of i believe the " Bayer Pioneer Kp. 20 " dated 1917 . As you can see in the picture's they are all hung together on a length of red ribbon which is now getting frail , The photo's were all taken in the same location & show different groups including Kompany HQ , there are lot's of medals & ribbons on show , there are also a few X's on certain soldiers as too perhaps point out who was who in the photo's . Now i myself do not collect Imperial items so i will be looking too pass these onto perhaps someone who does , so can anyone give me an approx value for this set please

    The first one says:

    "Feldpostkarte

    Herrn M. Wilinski
    Polizeisergeant
    Wanne Westf.
    [= Westfalen]

Abs. [= Absender] Reservist E. Wilinski
    [...], Kolberg, Pommern

    Viele Grüße und ein
    Bild von mir.

    Emil
    "

    ...meaning:

    "Field post card

    To: Mr. M. Wilinski
    Police Sergeant
    Wanne, Westfalia

    Sender: Reservist E. Wilinski

    [...], Kolberg, Pomerania

    Many greetings and a
    photograph of me.

    Emil
    "

(Sorry about the one missing word; somehow I can't quite make it out.)

The second one is giving me a really hard time, so, again: Sorry about the blanks.

The postcard was sent by a man named Schimann, whose address is given as Berlin N 4, Invalidenstraße 42. It is addressed to:

    "Wehrmann
    Hermann oder Adolf
    Schweigel
    IV. Reserve Armeekorps
    7. Division
    2. Compagnie
    Reserve Inf. Reg. No. 26
    "

    ...i.e.:

    "Wehrmann
    Hermann or Adolf
    Schweigel
    IV. Reserve Army Corps
    7th Division
    2nd Company
    Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 26
    "

Wehrmann was the rank designation for a basic-level private in the Landwehr, i.e. the second-line reserves. The actual text is:

    "Berlin 16.II.15

    Meine Lieben.
    Die herzlichsten Grüße fern
von der Heimat an Euch beide
    wie geht es Euch hoffentlich

    [...] [...] und munter
    Bruder Fritz hat heute aus
    Oppeln auch geschrieben an
uns eine Karte hat er auch
    erhalten und seine Wunde
    heilt sehr schön. Nun
    [...]
    herzlichen Gruß
    [signed]"

    ...meaning...:

    "Berlin 16/2/15

    My dear ones.
The most heartfelt greetings from far
from home to the two of you
    how are you hopefully

    [...] [...] and well
    today, brother Fritz has written
    to us from Oppeln, too
he has also received a postcard
    and his wound is
    healing nicely. Now
    [...]
    cordial greetings
    [signed]"

(The writer has hardly used any interpunction in his message.)

    HD1450,
These WW1 group postcards are fairly common, I believe not so sort after by collectors. I would expect to pay 2 - 3 Euro, not much more.
