I was addicted to the "Hokey-Pokey" but I've turned
myself around.
Thanks Greg,
I will find a place in the showcase for them, instead of the bin :-)

I was wondering if anyone could offer some insight. I believe it is real, the hallmark is H (Hossauer, Berlin?). However, I think someone's touched it up or it wasn't made to a high standard. There's paint between the iron core and the silver rim. On other examples I have, the core moves freely which I kind of like.
The cross looks good to me and I do not believe the core
is repainted. The ribbon is another matter. I think it (ribbon)
is a modern replacement.

Could be a bit of black tarnish you see in the recessed
areas of the frame that looks somewhat like paint.
I also think it is fine........

Steve.
Ack, thanks guys. Reference the ribbon, I think you're right. It doesn't sit on the ring like it has been for more than a quarter century.
Nice cross, doesn´t look repainted to me either, just in good shape :-)

My gut tells me that you are right about it being fake. However,
I have spent the last half hour comparing it to known originals.
The core details are very close to what I would expect an original
to look like. The blank side of the core looks wrong to me. Which
makes me think that this was a 1914 that has been sanded down.
The frame is the biggest red flag to me. None of crosses that I looked
at had anywhere near the amount of flashing on the inside edges.
All that being said, I can not say for sure it is a fake. I would really
like to see some clear, straight on, CLOSEUP shots with the cross
facing right side up. (ring at the top). preferably without as much
glare on the frame.
Like I said, my gut says fake BUT it does still have possibilities .
I would like your permission to post your pictures on another
forum that I am active on that has several 1813 owners as members.

donny1boy,
Is the small jump ring soldered to just one side
of the frame or to both sides? The more I look
at this cross, the more I am beginning to like it.
I would really like to see a good close up of the
cross with less glare on the frame so I check
the beading and corner cross hatching.
