Thank you, Miro, for your confirmation. This is actually the very first Iron Cross I bought almost a year ago so I am glad to know a bit more about it.

I decided to post a pic of one of my AWS crosses to
show that the paint loss on Marcs cross is not an
uncommon thing. On these crosses, they used
any alloy core that did not stick well to paint.

I know I posted this one in this thread before but that
was 137 pages and nearly 5 years ago.

This is another AWS pillow back. This one has what I
believe is the 3rd type core. The unusual thing about
this one is that uses an iron core but has a brass frame.

I agree. Any other condition of this core than this is suspicious.

    Hi Marc,

They can be easily identified by the core itself, mainly by the crown. All three types have been posted, so you can find this difference easily. Mainly the third core crown is very specific. You can´t confuse it with others. Here is my 3rd type EK2.

I am working on getting permission from a friend over
at WAF to post his AWS pictures.

    Here are the AWS crosses.

WAF member Streptile did a lot of research on these
and took some very nice pictures. I chose to use his
instead of mine because of the great picture quality.

These pictures are posted with his permission---
