6. July 1917, old style of writing dates. Nice cross, Marc!
Thanks a lot Miro ;-)
Wonder what happened that day ?!

Nothing special. All quiet on Western front. It´s the time between the crash of Nivelle offensive (9. May 1917) and beginning of Third Battle of Ypres (Paschendaele) (16. July 1917). But the day of award is not the day of brave deed (mainly if we speak about EK 1st class). In June 1917, Germans attacked at Chemin des Dames and at Morronville.
Check this great page First World War.com - On This Day - July 1914-1919
Btw, as I remember from Ian Kershaw´s Hybris, it took about 3 months for Adolf Hitler´s officer to persuade officials to award Corporal Hitler with EK 1. class for the deed he was promised to be awarded for.

Nice cross Marc
Interesting engraving, I have never before seen
dates written in such a way.

Something for gourmets.
EK2 1870 in nice condition with drilled out jumpring. As you see on detailed photos, it is not jeweler´s repair, but genuine variation. Second one I have seen in my collecting "career". I missed the first one as it was sold for 400 euros, but with this second one I was lucky.

Now that is one nice and interesting cross :-)
Congrats, Miro, you really know how to dig the special ones up ;-)
