Nice Lee.
I am always a bit skeptical when it comes to engraving but I
have no problems with this one at all.

Iron cross original or not? mirror luster back side.
Bad fake.
It's a cast one piece.
That is evident from the paint going up into the beading on the
front side and from seeing how uneven the back side is. Very cheaply made.

Explain to me more simply. From your answer I understood cross fake. Others explanation is not understood (my bad english) The cross consists of three parts. Sorry bad pictures. Mirror luster back side. cross tinted.
Hi Maxrsx,
From the pictures, the cross looked to me to be one piece. I based that on
how the paint has gone up into the beading at the points I circled below.

I based my opinion of it being cast from what looks like unevenness
in the back of the cross.---

If this is indeed a 3 piece cross, then I was wrong in what I told
you--- I am sorry, I was mistaken.
This style cross with the large crown and closed "4" are being faked and i do
not trust them.(hence my hast to make a judgement) I recommend you
wait and see what others have for opinions on this cross. As for me, I
would not have it in my collection.

I agree with Greg on this one (3 piece or not).
My friend are recently acquired a W.W.1 Iron Cross 1st class that measures 43mm by 43mm. It is maker marked 'K.M.S.T.' for Kriegsministerium Standesamt, and 'D.R.G.M' for Deutsches Reichs GebrauchsmunterIts. Its pin is stamped 800 which is for .800 silver. He have a question :
- If the retaining pin is stamped 800 does it mean that the Iron Cross itself is also
800 silver?
- I am not familiar with this type of Cross and retaining pin hook so any information would be appreciated.
- Would this Iron Cross be consider rare?
