Dimas, not a machette,....but a short sword, based on the Model 1840 Faschinmesser, and carried by the Prussians in the 1870/71 Franco Prussian war, and way beyond upto the end of WW1 by specialist units, such as Artillery. There were slight variations depending on period made and manufaturer, brass tips on scabbards, smooth hilts etc. It has superb matching regimentals (markings) on both weapon and scabbard, " 13. T.L. 11. 30." which translates to "13th Train Battalions Field Hospital (Feld Lazarett), 11th company, 30th weapon". I show such a weapon a variation, shown with belt attachment, the weapon was usually worn from the belt in a frog, like a bayonet. Prost ! Steve.

Is there any source available where could be encripted all the letters Germans marked the items in the Imperial period?
The numbers is a quite different: the scabbard last digits is 30, but the Messer itself is a 33

If you want a book about Imperial German unit markings, the best book around is Jeff Noll's "The Imperial German Regimental Marking"

    Hope that helps

Dimas....Richie B is correct, Jeff noll's book is the bible for deciphering "Regimentals", last published 1991, can be obtained from online book stores, Amazon, AB Books etc......I wouldnt worry about the last digits not matching, it means somebody did not put the sword back in its correct scabbard back in Company stores !..it will not detract from its desirability or value.
    Prost ! Steve.
