Imperial German WW1 Fighting Knife - Officer Model?

Sorry, I´m not collecting imperial sword´s, but, there´re some German WWI bayo´s left, (out of my former bayonet collection).

That´s not correct in every case ...

The portepee, (the Troddel), was the sign of the unit, (COY, Arty or Infantry, Cavalry, motorized, and so on), of the particular Regiment.

Heres´s a "Grabendolch Modell 16", (trench knife, 1916 pattern).
I was told, the Portepee´s showing the colours of an machine-gunner´s unit.

I don't know about the Austrian army, but in the German army a Portepee was an officer's (also higher NCOs, etc.) knot. It was an indication of rank, not the unit. The enlisted man's knot was not referred to as a Portepee.

To be honest with you--and I'm sure you'd agree--I prefer the issued models better (like the Hammesfahr or Demag), especially the crank handle version...
