    hi , cant see any way of being sure of its date , it is a fob for a watch chain popular and in use before 1900 and up until the demise of the pocket watch with the advent of the wristwatch. very popular with german vetrans.....cheers paul

    As Paul says, a watch fob, not from 1870 IMO, but a souvenir
    or memento of military service that probably dates to a
    somewhat later time.........

    I would guess 1895 to 1900. There was a big deal made of the 25 year anniversary
    of the war of 1870. Lots of Ek related items became popular as is evident by the
    25 year Oak Leaf attachments. The many stick pins and frack chains.

    Hello guys and thanks for your input. So since it is an original item, even made in 1895, it's fine for me. It's offered for $45 only, so i'll take it. I would have never guessed that it was a watch fob. I hope if another member owns a complete set of this with a watch, to post some pictures.
