Hello Jamie
This style was originally classed as type V in Hamelmann's somewhat outdated wound badge book. There are Godet marked, Jeweller made badges with a similar design around and somewhere out in Forum land somebody decided that every badge with this design was made by Godet. Unfortunately, this info has been parrotted around and now seems to be accepted as fact. Here is a link to the HWMF Forum. Post # 4 in the thread shows the design in a period Wilhelm Froese catalogue.
Hello John
There's nothing wrong with these badges. The problem is that they are being sold as manufactured by Godet. There were possibly several makers using this design, as these badges will be found with numerous detail differences. It is frankly ridiculous to say that they are all made by Godet, yet this myth has been perpetuated on several forums. If you look around, you will not find any concrete period proof that these are Godet made. You will only find forum Heresay. Like I said in post # 2, I own several of this style of badge and would eagerly welcome any firm proof, as in catalogues etc, that these are Godet made. I don't think I'll be holding my breath though!
Jamie,
I was cleaning out a bunch of junk files and pictures off
my computer this morning and found this image. I do not
remember where I saved it from but I think you might find it interesting.
