I've taken the liberty of posting more pictures of the Jager zu Pferde helmet I recently acquired. After the initial clean up I didn't realise that the trim around the helmet, Wappen and spike were nickel-silver. the build-up of tarnish was so great that it just looked like very dirty brass. after further examination of the helmet I found five entry holes and one exit. Four of the holes are only the size of a needle. But one of those which entered from the back carried through with enough force to dent the inside of the helmet just forward of the front of the base plate. The numerous indentations and tiny holes suggest to me that the wearer was caught in the middle of an artillery barrage.
