Good afternoon everybody. My first purchase of 2020 is this commemorative centenary medal to celebrate the 100th birthday of kaiser Wilhelm I. I have never seen one before, but it must be quite common as it was awarded over 1.2 million times to all serving members of the armed forces, civil servants, former colonial troops and vetreans of the wars between 1864-1866 and 1870-1871. It could also be awarded to women serving in the Luisen Order. As usual, all comments are welcome.

    Nice one Andy
It is a common medal but they are well made and nice looking.
I don't own a fullsized version but I do have a couple miniatures.

I've always thought the miniature looked a lot like our American penny.

Hi Greg. After reading up on these things, the miniatures are much more desireable. Well done on finding one. They are so much more rarer than the full sized ones. I only bought mine on a whim as I was leaving the venue which didn't have much to offer. I thought it looked unusual/nice and is actually made of real bronze, so has some weight to it.

    Thanks Andy,
I prefer miniature medals. Some of the details in the miniature awards is amazing.
    Like little works of art.

    Hi everyone.
I must say that the Kaiser William I Centenary medal is one of my favorites in Imperial Germany. Congratulations to Andy for adding one to his collection.
The photo of Greg's miniature medal, next to the American penny is very illustrative.
In a quick search on the net I found today on ebay.de at least two miniatures for sale. I love the jewelry work on the miniature medal suspension rings (Agree with Greg)
    Regards.

All we need now for this thread are the other two varients, namely, the Kriegsmetal version and the gilded silver medal, both of which are extreemly rare.
