Have you tried outside in natural light, on macro setting, and zooming in slightly?

From what can see, the drawings are extremely well done!

Yes, My Grandfather was lucky to have simply survived his wounds, I think also he was "lucky" if you can say that to have been wounded and taken prisoner early in the war whilst there still existed the concept of gentlemanry behaviour. My Grandfather suffered paralysis of his back and the use of one leg as a result but otherwise enjoyed a long life only because of the humanitarian gesture of the French troops facing them at the time. This was something my Father always impressed upon me.

Your Grandfather had a real talent. His drawings are very nice.
As mentioned earlier, try taking the pictures outside on a gray or
overcast day. Don't use the flash.
