Yes, these are truly poignant and real remains of the legendary struggle against the "Corsican Tyrant"!
And Steve, that's a wonderful 1870 Eisernes Kreuz!
Thank you guys for all your interest and good input! There's at least some of us who can fully appreciate German items that doesn't bear a swastika on it

Ladies & Gentlemen.....Here are both "Kriegsdenkmünze für die Feldzüge 1870–71" medals, combatents and non-combatents, a bit unloved/tarnished, I am loathed to attempt to clean given their age ! The non combatent is displaying the wrong ribbon...which is common, I show the correct ribbon (modern production), which is shared with the next of kin (Widows Cross) medal of the 1914/18 Ehrenkreuz (Hindenburg Cross). Note there are two versions of the Combatents medal, one with inscription "AUS EROBERTEM GESCHUETZ" (From captured guns) around the edge and one without ! The one I have with out the inscription (these versions are believed to be private purchase), is on a parade mount, also shown. The non-combatents and private purchase medals were not made from captured French cannons. Note the jump and suspension rings on my non-combatents are brass, this is correct and not a repair/replacement, and that its silver finish (if it ever had one !) has all but worn away! The Combatents medal is still fairly inexpensive to buy and is common, as Steve states the non-combatent a little more expensive and harder to find, mine came from Holland, many years ago. Prost ! Steve.
