That is a fabulous example. Cypher of Kaiser Wilhelm II, which dates it to before November 1918. Though it could be possible a veteran commissioned it in the 1920's. I've never seen such a detailed bird's head hilt as that one, it's surprising there is no maker's mark. The etching in the back of the blade is superb. Ges Gesch stamp is like a patent pending stamp, not maker's name. Black painted hilts for WW1 fighting knives are known.
