Everyone should have a "KO" in their collection. These were the crosses
that were handed out to the man on the field.

There are a couple different theories.
One is that "KO" is still an unknown maker.
The other theory is that 'KO" stands for "Königliches Münzamt Orden, Berlin"---the Berlin mint
and supplied the military with the crosses to be awarded.
We may never know for sure. Either way, KO is by far the most common mark found.

Nice EK1 do we have any ideal how many marked unknown makers there were for the imperial Iron cross gentlemen.

Thanks Greg I am having a hard time reading the three letters on mine I will fill the letters with ink on the suspension ring and then wipe the ring down to see if I can make the letters pop out a little more .
