Hello, I have what I think is a m1898. It has been reworked to remove what I think, is a lions head on the guard. This sword has no other markings. How much would this sword be worth? It also has a slight bend to the blade too. Thanks in advance. Jim

Nice sword. Based on the crest I believe it was manufactured for police forces in Chile. I recently handled a pair with "Policia Fiscal" faintly etched on the blade and similar rack numbers on the guard. The grips on the ones I handled had grooves and I wonder if the handle on yours may have been replaced at some time. There are several photos and information on similar swords in this article: http://www.cutandparry.com/92_weatherly_swords.pdf

I agree with Red Devil. It appears to be a chilean sword based offf of the german degen. The original handle should have been a dark ribbed plastic. not sure on value.
