    Default M1871 Sawback bayonet

Hello all. Just thought I would post some pics of the bayonet I got this weekend. It's a M1871 Sawback bayonet, clean blade, nice and straight. Blade is stamped Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co, Solingen, made in 1891. No scabbard unfortunately.

I was wondering if I could get some details on the regiment markings, 6.T.L.7.4. Does anyone know what this might be?

    Good bayonet.

The marking is for a Feldlazarett der Train-Abteilung which was a field hospital unit.

According to Jeff Noll's book on Imperial German Regimental Markings, T.L. can mean two different types of unit.

    Pre 1914

Feldlazarett des Train-Bataillon = Field Hospital of a Service Corps Battalion.

    Post 1914

Feldlazarett der Train-Abteilung = Field Hospital of a Service Corps Detachment. Schlesische Train-Abteilung Nr. 6

Therefore your marking will be either

    6th Feldlazarett des Train-Bataillon/sub-unit 7/weapon 4.

    or

    6th Feldlazarett der Train-Abteilung/sub-unit 7/weapon 4.

Can't help with the designation of the sub-unit I'm afraid - could be Company I suppose.
