M1917 German Gas Mask

Hi everyone, just got this nice, untouched M17 gasmask with canister in good condition. I especially like the soldiers name carved into the leather strap.

Hi Doug,

A very nice find indeed - especially with the additional clip-on filter which was introduced in 1918. I've never seen a canister with a leather strap before, they are usually of a cotton/canvas type material. maybe a modification by the owner at the time? Looking at the close-up of the strap it certainly looks to be the work of a 'squaddie'
