Hi all. I recently purchased this mounted 1914 EK2 and Hindenburg Cross. I believe both medals are genuine. The EK2 had a mark on the ring but I cannot make it out. The ribbons look genuine but the metal mount looks more recent to me. Has anyone come across this before. I suppose they could have been re-mounted by a veteran at a later date? Any opinions would be welcome. Cheers.

    Hello,
They are both originals. Metal medal bar is obviously not period one.

Your cross might be part of the Wagner family. Both "Wagner & Sohn"
and "Sy - Wagner" used this core. among others.

I see no issues with this. These metal bars being plated age quite well. TR era.

Thanks Adrian. It really aged quite well and that can be very misleading.

Yes, alle is OK here. Don't forget, that the Hindenburg Cross was established 15 years after the WW1 and awarded since 1934. So the plate of the 1930's is full entitled to be called as period one
