My 1916 s98/05 nA sawback butcher bayonet

Hello all,

I was looking for a s98/05 bayonet years ago but moved on to other things when I couldnt find one in the right condition for the right price. This one popped up last month out of the blue in decent condition, nA model with sawback as well. Made by Pack Ohliger & Co, Solingen in 1916. It has a few minor issues, a ding on the scabbard with a few scratches, some spotting to the blade tip and discolouration to the handle but I like it and snapped it up quickly. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

Good bayonet. The maker is one of the less encountered ones according to my references.

Now That is a Fine sawback butcher! Gives you the shivers just wondering how many guys guts that bugger has been stuck into! Super nice pick up!

Thanks for your reply Richie and thanks Lance, I did enjoy reading your scan. I bought the bayonet based on the condition and at the time didn't even realise the rarity of the maker. Turned out to be a nice little bonus.

Thanks Wagriff. I don't think this one has seen much action, but if someone did get stuck with it I don't think they would last too long.
