Article about: Hi guys, Just brought my first WW1 EK1 cased, a real gem. Seems like an early version, what do you guys think about this being a true original?

Thanks guys, yeh when I saw this I didn't think twice about buying it. One thing I wanted to know if someone could answer it, crown locations on sy & wagner's are they always in the same location? Like I'd compare mine with other wagner's and sometimes there crown sit higher up. Is the placement always different? Just curious.
Sy-Wagner used at least 4 different cores.
    All using different crown designs.

Great and very informative picture, definitely a big like from me for this one.

Is it perhaps possible to tell that particular crown designs exclusively match certain war periods, i.e. they can be used to determine an approximate year when a particular cross was made? Or is it likely that at least some of the different cores were used simultaneously?

Those with B14 core (down, left on GregĀ“s pic) are the earliest. (Crown is identical to 1870 B core crown, thus their name). Then it more depends on the fact, whether core is cast/blackened or stamped/painted, than on crown itself. Earlier pieces have cast blackened core. Hard to say from the pics, whether thread starter is stamped or cast.

Here is one blackened S-W that showed up in my collection once.
