A M seems to stand for Artillerie Munitionskolonne!
An interesting piece with some history it's not an uncommon marking for the M1811. When they were phased out of the cavalry for the M 1852 they were reissued to the horse artillery, and then to other formations like the munitions columns, Train-Batailions etc. FP

From the one picture I'm not sure just where to put the sword. It's not a regulation pattern that I'm familiar with, and 'in hand' I would be looking at the markings for clues. (I have a few experimental/trials swords from before the adoption of the M 1852 which is why I would like to see if it has the same kinds of markings.) Also the dimensions, as they look a little off, also having some different construction characteristics.

I have some references in a couple of places (some are in storage) that may shed some light. But with just the picture to go on, my guess at the moment is (most likely) Solingen manufactured for export or one of the smaller states. Best Regards, FP
