I just obtained a nice 71/84 and am having trouble with the id on the butt plate finial. The top line is K.A.R. and beneath is R. 317. Any help would be appreciated.

Possibly Kaiser Alexander-Garde-Grenadier Regiment (Nr.1) but that doesn't explain the second "R".
