Hi Kev,

It's not an officers picklehaube for Bavarian regiments as the spike and base plate are round rather on this one rather than star shaped.

It is more likely an other ranks private purchase as the Bavarian plate and chin strap points towards this. The silk lining may be an extra paid for by the owner.

Hi Kevin,

You have a very nice looking "Eigetumsstück" (Private Purchase) helmet, congratulations!

This type of helmet was typically purchased by the O.Y.V.'s (one year volunteers) who had to provide their own helmet and uniform for service use, or the soldier that was better off financially and wanted a nicer liner and/or fittings on his helmet.

Here's some photos of one that I found a few years ago.
