Old Family Picture

Hello,
Recently I have found an old family picture from the last century (?). Since I cannot recognize any of the family members here, I am asking for anyone's help, who can shed some light on the man's uniform in the picture.
Any ideas, clues, recommendations, would be much appriciated.

Circa WWI German and he has the Iron cross II class ribbon and is an officer.
