donkihotis, this type of German writing is called "Sutterlinshrift" or "Sutterlin" for short, an old German cursive script developed in the 16th Century after the demise of Gothic script....very difficult to read, last taught in German schools between 1933-1941 ! Kenneth, the abrieviation is "Bay" for "Bayerisches" (Bavaria) not an "R", not a Landwehr unit either but a wartime raised Regiment, the "Königlich Bayerisches Infanterie Regiment Nr 24". Hope this helps.
    Prost ! Steve.
Thank you Steve How come the document mentions the Landwehr then? The writing I have marked in red says "Landw." without a doubt. But you are evidently more knowledgeable than me in this respect

    Nice looking set.
Can you post a good closeup of the makers mark?

well unfortunately yours has just a partial mark and the core is the generic "slant W" style
core that was used by several different makers. ( Godet and Meybauer both used this core
among others ) You may need to try and match the frame details such as the inner corners
and beading to known originals to nail down the maker.

Partial mark? I've never seen something like this before. You mean it was meant to be like that or is it just a flaw?

I think that the die slipped when it was being struck and you only got part
of the mark. The very top or very bottom of something. Seeing how Godet
was on the makers to use this core. It looks very much like you might have
a "G". Imagine a G that is missing the left side.

Hi chopper, very nice. Thanks a lot for your help. I believe that your theory is very possible to be right. Interesting. I like it this way coz it makes the cross unique

Greg, I think you are correct.
