Opinions - Officer pickelhaube

Article about: Hi, Please, I need some opinions about this officer pickelhaube. Sorry the bad pictures. Thanks in advance.

    This is not an officer's helmet. It appears to be a private purchase helmet for an enlisted man of the Garde-Pionier-Bataillon (Berlin) Garde-Korps prior to 1891. The Wappen (helmet plate) went out of use around 1906. I can only see one cockade and the way the chin strap is attached also support this as an earlier helmet. Spike and cockade are for a soldier and not an officer.

    The helmet in the first photo is of the 1842 pattern, these is the first pattern of spiked helmets. While the second photo would be post 1895 as they are wearing the Uberzug or cover. Sorry I can't give you a value.

    Sorry, we do not do evaluations as the value would be different for everybody, IMO.
    Pay only what you are comfortable with or search on line for other examples for sale.
