This shell was given to me, but I cannot find info on it. Any idea what weapon it was used in? Was this made in Berndorf, Germany or Austria? Thanks.

Is it possible that this shell was used in the 77mm Feldkanone M96?
Tom
Hi Tom, looks like it is marked 8cm M16.
Cheer, Ade.
Hi Ade, I also thought so at first, but the "m" in the possible "cm" actually has three humps instead of two. The inside diameter of the shell is also 77mm. I cannot find anything on the net to compare to. A lot of photos of the gun, but not the ammo!
Tom
So it does....
I have a 77mm in my collection. Dated April 1917 and maker marked "Polte Magdeburg". I only have the one basic pic of it on file.
Cheers, Ade.
Hi Ade. Thanks , nice round you have.
Could you possibly tell me the measurement of the shell so that I can compare? Mine measures 77mm I.D; 79mm O.D (both at open end); Base is 87mm and the length of shell with base is 230mm.
Tom
Just about to have my dinner. But I will get it out and measure it later tonight.
Cheers, Ade.
Thanks Ade, but no hurry. Let it not be said that I stand between a man and his food.
Tom
Should be for this gun:

Hi Tom, back now fed and watered.
Not quite a match. The internal / external measurements are 75/77mm. But the overall length I get is 2mm shorter. The base measures 89mm.
Cheers, Ade.
