Here it is!
Picture isn't mine!!
Hi,
i just spent the past hour reading this thread and hope that i might get the same type of response to my post . I just bought a Transitional SD Ear-Cut M1918 SIZE 66 helmet that I think was made in the 1920's ??? I have not yet received it yet but am posting the pictures that were used by the seller . it was sold as a "aged repro" , but have my doubts , thinking more like 1920's ??? Your thoughts gents ?
It was not made in the 20's it was made last year in India or Pakistan. The seller tells you it's an aged repro you should believe him. You need to study more on these helmet before trying to buy one. Originals were only made in one size 64 and it should be stamped as such though I have an original that missed it's stamp somehow. The main way to tell good from bad is to study photos of originals and study the cut out. Originals have a shallow cut out and ALL the repro's made have over sized cut outs. The only bad helmets that have shallow cut outs are original M18's that have been cut out by a metal worker. Sometimes they can do a good enough job to fool you but they will have repainted the helmet to hide the work. If you want s good one there is a restore on ebay here, Very RARE Camo WWI M18 German Cutout Cut Out Cavalry Telephonist Helmet | eBay
It's not a bad price for what you get. I am pretty confident from the photos it's a good shell.
Here is an original I picked up at a pawn store.
