I remember seeing an old wartime Hollywood film set around the USAAC that featured that type of accoustic locator-this was after radar had come into use but was obviously still 'Top Secret'.

I have read of a secret weapon the Germans were trying to create to kill troops using sound frequencies. It was burst internal organs. But it was so huge they could not move it into battle.....they also had one for aircraft!!
