cricketchris1944, this is a Model 1916 German Stahlhelm,I take it it has M91 style chinstrap posts...the slope of German helmets towards the rear skirt is very different when comparing different makers, Visors were either short or longer and the angle of the slope was steep or flat. I include a sample chart below for comparison showing the different angles, your looks to me like the maker ' Remschied-Hasten' size 64, the stamp for this maker would be 'K 64' (size 64 was made by this firm). Are there any letters/numbers stamped on either inside or outside the crown of the helmet. Oh and by the way....$20 !! you cant get any better than that !

cricketchris1944, exactly what i was hoping to see...M91 chinstrap posts (A'la Pickelhaube) and metal liner band, it is a GERMAN M17 Helmet. I am sure there will be markings just forward of the right chinstrap mount (as you look at the helmet front on), they will be obscurred by the thick paint/cruddy rust build up. IMO the green paint inside is not period.

cricketchris1944, GREAT !....it is as i first thought, the 'A' character is actually a 'bell shape' (looks a little like a capital A ) followed by an 'L', this maker mark is 'R.Lindenberg A.G. Remshied-Hasten', this firm only made steel helmets in size 64.The bell/L logo is also known as the 'Rattle logo'. Some sources put the rattle logo as mm for 'Stahlwerk Rochling', others, the Remshied firm, (as i believe), the Remshied-Hasten made helmet is the one with the distnctive low skirt to visor look, just like yours.

Thank you for that.I tried my best ,this was my first book.It was maded not for people like us but to get new people interrested in history I was thinking a picture book with great pictures would be the way to go and get them interrested in it.

I know who to ask now for infos,Is it rare.I was thinking it was from a different country than Germany but this is great news because I was going to sell it but no more.I try to only collect US and German stuff because it would be way to much.

The most common M16/17/18 helmets tend to be the 'E.T.' mm helmets as they made all sizes, plus the only model of the super rare M18 cut-away model.
