Nice example of what we are supposed to call 'Ersocs' these days - 'Ersatz socket bayonets'...!!! Roy Williams 'Collectors Book...', discusses these. The identical metal grip is also found on Ersatz knife bayonets of the EB 4-13 series. and is what Roy classed as a 'Type B hilt'. This looks to me - but I am no expert! - to be a late 18th-early 19th GB-made one with what could be an Enfield inspector's mark beneath the initias 'I M'.
