It's a perfectly good cross. As far as I know, all KOs started out flat.
Yours was most likely hand vaulted by the recipient to be a bit more fashionable.
This is not the first one I have seen .

Thanks Harryamb, the seller states it was vaulted at the factory, would that be acceptable ?

Vaulted by hand or at the factory, either way, it's still a good example of a ww1 first class cross.
Most of us believe that KO crosses are the perfect example of an awarded type cross.

Thank you Greg, really like this one, will be able to pair it up with an EK2 (KO) that I bought a few years back ! Many thanks for your help, will post some pictures when it arrives !
Kind regards

Hi,
nice original with but official issued awarded pieces should be always flat and marked. Unmarked and/or vaulted pieces (also with screwback) are made for private market (or after war replacements). But here is a problably hand vaulted (awarded) piece (I can not remember any factory-vaulted KO-cross and don't find them in Wernitz book).
greetings

KOs are always flat and pinbacks. There are no original KO screwbacks.
The only KO screwback I have ever seen turned out to be fake.

Right, but my remarks refer to all EK1, not only KO
