From its size, I'd say yes - but beware that many armies at this time used this design. I have the pot (only) that looks very similar, but has obvious Japanese arsenal markings on it! Does this one have any markings at all?

It is German, an early M1910, they were not always marked though they usually were. Too bad you missed it.

Oooo, that would have been an excellent price, about half of what an early aluminum version can usually sell for. BUT! You did the right thing, If you are not certain of what you are looking at, the smartest thing to do is walk away, saving your money for a more certain purchase. Now, you will know better if you see another. Imperial era mess tins are some of my favorite items and I look for them constantly. I wish you luck in your search.

Edit for addition.... Do be careful about price, there is a decent one, dated (1914) on eBay right now but the seller is asking $425 USD on a Buy it Now.
