1914 French infantryman , 26th Regt , Mannequin

Heres my ongoing attempt to complete the uniform of a French Infantryman of the first few months of war . Unlucky man tio have faced the machineguns wearing this, which hardly changed since the Crimea ! The 26th Regt collar patches are original , ive added them , wheras the cap was a barn find in Normandy . This i had to re build adding peak and patching over hugely mothed area . The numerals i made.

Yes i have just sourced a Lebel and will need to get the garance trousers , gaiters and some footwear that resembles , as almost impossible to get originals.The pre war pack in blackened canvas is hard too ! Harder than 08 kit , though mid war French kit is not too difficult .

What a great display we hardly ever see W.W.1 displays like that, you have done really well so far keep us posted with the rest of the kit you get. and thanks for showing it.

Its tricky with WW1 French collecting in UK . A bit closed to people outside France though easier in the USA as Hollywood bought up surplus French kit after WW1 to use in their movies !
