    Default Alvin York

Walkwolf,Two great photos of a great soldier and one with his mom.If you don't get a feeling in your heart that she is so happy to have her son home.Alvin York was portrayed by a fine actor Gary Cooper, but here is the great soldier in the flesh!I have an article that shows he was ill and down on his luck later in life and I feel bad about that.

Very interesting indeed. What Alvin York did was quite a feat and his background and reasoning makes it even more fascinating....., or at least so Ive always thought.

Do you have a link or some pics from the site, that your father re-discovered?
Would be great to get a sort of 'After The Battle' now-and-then feel for the place.....

The film "Sgt. York" starring Gary Cooper has a very 'campy'
and Hollywood style about it, but it's still a good picture,
    and one of my favourites.........
Ive watched it many many times.
Though it is of course a 'product of its time,' I dont hold that against it (maybe quite the contrary) and I like that old movie a lot.
'Coop' was a fantastic actor and his personality still to this day comes clearly through the screen (be it plasma or at a movie theatre).
With his stoic demeanor and no frills approach, he is far better (IMO) than some other actors. A favourite actor of mine.
Apart from the obvious choice (the epic 'High Noon,' which stands head and shoulders over many other movies and will forever be an icon), the movie 'Man of the West,' is a favourite Coop movie of mine.

I can not even count the number of time that I have watch that movie.
I was able to go to the site probably about 4 times .
Was able to find a few artifacts.

Did you post here about the .45acp cartridge found?
A link or pics would be great.
You keep comming up with interesting artifacts & info.
(in my best Yoda voice): "In this one burns bright the flame it does, mmmmmmm......"

    .
You just say that out loud to yourself, didnt you? Come on, admit it!

in the movie it show the hill where he captured the machine gun positions.
In real life the hill is most higher and must more difficult to get up to .
