As the pouch is not Broad Arrow marked or for that matter State Police it's probably civilian for hunting rounds-7 is a small number for any service use...

Ok, now with the .303 round next to it, it doesn't look as short. I don't imagine a Martini round would be that easy to find either, just to try it in a loop. You can tell though, whoever had it befor used it alot. I'm not that familiar with the Martini rifle, other than Zulu and I've seen a few cadet rifles in smaller calibres. Was it used widely as a sporting arm?

Lordy, yes-large numbers were surplussed out of military use after the adoption of the LE rifles and numbers were also converted to Martini Enfields in .303 but as the MH rifles were made in quantity by pre Great War British standards there were still plenty to be sold off to shooting clubs or hunters/farmers etc around the empire.
