Article about: Evening all, saw this bayonet in an antiques shop today, very good condition, dated 1907 with crown (stamped just above the handle). Cost is £35. I apologise for the distance of the picture,

    Evening all, saw this bayonet in an antiques shop today, very good condition, dated 1907 with crown (stamped just above the handle). Cost is £35.

    I apologise for the distance of the picture, took it while it was still in the cabinet.

    Opinions on cost and also was this design used during WW1.

    Looks alot like my SMLE bayonet, does it have a scabbard? £35 seems resonable

    Yeh thats the baby, no scabbard im afraid.

    Whats the gen with her then, rifle used with, was it used in the war etc etc.

    WW1, 1916, Used with the short magazine lee enfield, .303

    If you could knock them down on the price it wouldn't be a bad buy

    Hello-the P1907 bayo was used on the SMLE rifle from 1907 until the middle of WW2 when Britain changed over to production of the Lee Enfield No.4 Mk1 that used the spike bayo-the P07 bayo and SMLE rifle remained as standard with Australia and India until the 1960s and indeed they are still used by Indian paramilitary police. Your bayo should have the date of production and the maker on the blade near the handle. The bayo was used throughout WW1 but as stated was also produced after the war.
