British gas mask spectacles , WWI?

Hi All, Recently I have added to my goggle collection by getting some Gasmask Spectacles.

Now I know the difference between WWI and WWII German 'Masken Brille', with the long shank and stubby arms respectively. I also have a couple of pairs of British Gasmask spectacles; the ones with the vertically flat arms . These are always described as WWII issue.

Did the British have specific gasmask specs in WWI?

I have not heard of the WW1 version.

I'll keep looking for a definitive answer.

But it might be that the typical wire framed spectacles of the period weren't seen as opening a significant gap in the gas mask seal or guys who needed glasses were just expected to remove them before putting a mask on?
