    I recently sold this item on behalf of a elderly neighbour without knowing anything about the history of the fallen. I googled the name and only came across sites that you need pay for information.

    Would anybody be interested to add any information they find?.

    Just looked on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.

    Commemorated on the Helles Memorial, so died at Gallipoli. Hope this helps.

    Wow thats quick info, most surely accurate as well. Both my elderly neighbour and her husband originally hailed from Wimbledon. Im guessing the soldier was on her late husbands side of the family or it could even have been passed on to him by a friend.

    Sold for just short of £120. i have seen them go for more and some for less..

    A summary of 2/South Wales Borderers

    2nd Battalion

    August 1914 : in Tientsin, China.
    23 September 1914 : landed at Lao Shan Bay for operations against the German territory of Tsingtao.
    4 December 1914 : embarked at Hong Kong, landing at Plymouth 12 January 1915.
    12 January 1915 : came under orders of 87th Brigade, 29th Division. Moved to Rugby.
    17 March 1915 : embarked at Avonmouth for operations at Gallipoli. Landed at Cape Helles 25 April 1915.
    11 January 1916 : moved to Egypt and went on to France, arriving Marseilles 15 March 1916.

    Your man lasted 1 day at Gallipoli.

    His medal card - couldn't find his service record on Ancestry#

    His Service Number indicates that he joined the regiment in 1907
