A fantastic group of helmets, they all look great and are getting harder to find in a good and complete condition. It's annoying to see the shells being sold without the badges as well as all the repro badges on the market to desirable units/armies.
Any idea why one of the artillery helmets is black? I've also associated black helmets with the police but they usually have the flaming bomb badge.

Hi Tony,
what you say is true, after 100 years it is difficult to find beautiful something, complete with liner and badge.
I know well these helmets, but are not very knowledgeable about their color, for the black helmet, I can tell you that appears repainted at the time, because under it's colored in "classic" blue.
I do not know if the black was the color of some artillery specialties or to make it less visible, in fact the original blue was a real blessing for the German snipers.
I also noticed that the "plaquette souvenir" helmet, was blue and it was subsequently repainted in black, could perhaps be a veterans habit?
Maybe someone is able to deepen this aspect.
