    Default French WW1 backpack?

Hello everyone, I bought this at a car boot sale as a teenager (paid a couple of pounds I should think) about twenty years ago because I thought it looked old and military. Its been in my unidentified box until now, and having done some research I think it could be WW1 French, but it would be great to know for sure and to know if they were also made and used in WW2. It has some modern peices of wood in it just to pad it out, if there was an original wooden frame it has gone. Any information would be appreciated. Doug
