I have recently learned about the history of my Great Great Grandfather Private Stanley George Fitch born in London, 1888. During the WW1 he was in the 2nd battalion grenadier guards and was a part of every battle that they fought in. He was awarded a bravery medal for taking out a German machine gun post at Passendaele with a grenade and received reported minor gunshot injuries towards the end of the war but was still serving at that time. He died aged 66 in 1954. My father still has his medal grouping which I will photograph soon.
Him on the left. Photo taken at unknown location in France.
